Each column is one period. Use + / − to schedule work and backup. All values are game energy units.

WELCOME TO THE CONTROL ROOM

A good shift is a balancing act.

  1. Read the forecast. The green bars are renewable supply. The gold bars are the town’s essential demand.
  2. Move the compute. Use + / − in the blue row to place all queued jobs in the eight periods. Each job uses one energy unit. At most three jobs fit per period.
  3. Mind the battery. Spare power charges it; gaps drain it, up to three units per period. A full battery spills surplus. An empty battery cannot cover a gap.
  4. Use a little backup. Orange + / − buttons add up to four backup units per period. Keep the shift total within the budget.
  5. Run your plan. Win with no shortfall, the exact job target, and backup within budget. Revise freely, or use a hint.

These are simplified game rules, not an engineering simulation. You can play every shift in any order. Keyboard: Tab between controls; Enter or Space to activate.

Peak Shift is an original dispatch puzzle with an original deterministic engine and six handcrafted shifts. No upstream game code or images are included.

GitHub concept research: UK Electricity Infrastructure Sim, Jason Jackson, MIT, revision 8210d80. Reviewed as an inspiration reference; its low popularity and June 2025 maintenance date led to the original-game fallback.

Topical inspiration: UNECE, Aligning Data Centres and Large Loads Growth With Grid Resilience, September 2026: flexible workloads, storage and grid resilience.

Town artwork generated with an OpenAI GPT image model. Optimized WebP bundled locally and used as the live dispatch scene. App code: MIT. No account or network connection is needed for gameplay.
